Conflict. You are sincere and are being obstructed. A cautious halt halfway brings good fortune. Going through to the end brings misfortune. It furthers to see the great man. It does not further to cross the great water.

彖传 · Tuan Zhuan Commentary
讼，上刚下险，险而健，讼。讼有孚窒，惕中吉，终凶，讼不可成也。利见大人，尚中正也。不利涉大川，入于渊也。
Song: Above firm, below dangerous; dangerous yet strong - this is Conflict. Conflict with sincerity but obstructed; being cautious and central brings good fortune, but the end is misfortune. Conflict cannot succeed. Favorable to see the great person, valuing what is central and correct. Unfavorable to cross the great river - one falls into the abyss.

讼卦警示争讼之害。虽有理但争讼终不吉，宜见德高之人调解，不可冒险强进。
Song warns of the harm of conflict. Even if one is right, litigation ultimately brings misfortune. Better to seek mediation from a virtuous person and not to push forward recklessly.

(Initial Six)不永所事，小有言，终吉。
If one does not perpetuate the affair, there is a little gossip. In the end, good fortune comes.

(Nine in Second)不克讼，归而逋，其邑人三百户，无眚。
One cannot engage in conflict; one returns home, gives way. The people of his town, three hundred households, remain free of guilt.

To nourish oneself on ancient virtue induces perseverance. Danger. In the end, good fortune comes. If by chance you are in service of a king, seek not works.

One cannot engage in conflict. One turns back and submits to fate, changes one's attitude, and finds peace in perseverance. Good fortune.
