Subject Spirit (Yong Shen) Rule
Men use Wife/Wealth as the subject spirit; Women use Officials/Ghosts as the subject spirit
According to the Marriage Chapter of "Bu Shi Zheng Zong": men take the Wealth line as subject, women take the Officials line as subject. The World line represents oneself, and the Response line represents the other party. Harmony or generation between World and Response is auspicious; clash or control is inauspicious. One should also examine intervening lines for obstacles, and the strength of the Parents line (which governs marriage documents).
When World and Response are in harmony and the Wealth line is strong, it is auspicious. When World and Response clash, even if Wealth and Officials are vital, the outcome will not be satisfactory.
Men take the Wealth line as subject: a strong Wealth line indicates a virtuous and beautiful wife. Women take the Officials line as subject: a vital Officials line indicates a noble and prosperous husband.
In all marriage divinations, examine World and Response. World is the self, Response is the other. If they generate or harmonize with each other, the marriage can succeed. If they clash or control each other, the marriage is difficult.
